I don’t know why I like that show so much. It’s funny to me how much I do, though. They cuss too much. They (Dog and his wife) fight too much. They wear white trash clothes. They have white trash hair. But I like watching that show, and it tickles me how they can cuss one another up one side and down the other and then stand in a circle, hold hands and pray to Jesus to help them get the bad guys.
Maybe it’s the simplicity of knowing who the bad guy is because they aren’t hiding behind nice clothes, polished makeup and smooth words. Maybe it’s the satisfaction of seeing the bad guy get caught. Maybe it’s the relationship between Dog and Beth—the love for one another, the aggravation with one another, the commitment to each other. It seems real.
Maybe I’m fascinated because they claim to believe in Jesus and talk about him a lot but they don’t look like a southern Christian.
Maybe it’s because deep in my heart, I’m a closet white trash girl who wishes she could wear clothes that don’t quite contain her bosoms, marry a long, haired, tattooed man, and yell “NAH NEE, NAH NEE, ICEHEAD!!!” at people from inside my SUV.
Wait… didn’t I do that last weekend?
